The latest research by Redfield & Wilton Strategies finds that 45% of Americans disapprove (-1) and 37% approve (-2) of President Joe Biden’s overall job performance as President. His net approval rating (-8%) is down one point from our previous poll conducted on 10 and 11 June.
Vice President Kamala Harris’ net approval rating stands at -5% (+3). In our latest poll, 40% disapprove (-5) and 35% approve (-2) of Kamala Harris’ performance as Vice President.
On matters of policy, the Joe Biden Administration elicits positive net approval ratings for its performance on the coronavirus pandemic (+8%).
Americans give the Administration negative net approval ratings for its performance on all other policy issues listed, including double digit net negative ratings on immigration (-20%), relations with China (-18%), housing (-17%), crime/policing (-15%), the economy (-13%), and relations with Russia (-13%).
Looking ahead to the 2024 Presidential Election, the economy is the top issue that Americans say will determine how they will vote in the election. When asked to select up to three issues that are most likely to determine how they vote in November 2024, 58% select the economy, 35% select healthcare, and 31% select abortion as determinative election issues.
The economy is the most-selected 2024 Election issue for both Donald Trump 2020 (68%) and Joe Biden 2020 (57%) voters. Other important election issues for Biden voters include abortion (45%), healthcare (43%), and housing and homelessness (29%), while 38% of Trump voters select immigration, 29% select healthcare, and 27% select government spending.
Our latest hypothetical voting intention finds Joe Biden leading Donald Trump by one point nationally, After weighing by likelihood to vote, 42% of respondents say they would vote for Biden (+3) and 41% say they would vote for Trump (-1) if they were candidates in 2024. A further 12% say they don’t know how they would vote (–).
Large majorities of 2020 Donald Trump voters (87%, –) and Joe Biden voters (82%, –) maintain that they would again vote for those respective candidates.
An alternative 2024 Kamala Harris campaign produces a lead of one point for the former President. If Donald Trump and Kamala Harris are the 2024 nominees, 42% of Americans say they will vote for Trump (-2) and 41% say they will vote for Harris (+1). In this scenario, 10% say they don’t know how they will vote (+1).
